The Story
With one week to go until Sinister 7, Michelle and I had a 3-4 hour long run on our training schedule. We decided to do something a little more fun than our regular routes close to home. I had gone to Rockbound Lake last September and was eager to take Michelle up to see the stunning views of both Tower Lake and Rockbound Lake.
I knew Rockbound was about 20km out and back with about 800 meters of elevation. I figured this would make for a perfect 3 to 4-hour run.
Getting There
The trailhead is a short detour off Hwy 1 between Banff and Lake Louise. Google Map Link
Runnability
The trail is well-maintained and has a fairly consistent incline all the way up to Rockbound Lake. The grade is just enough that it is too steep to run but not so steep that you don’t want to try. It flattens out a little closer to Tower Lake before a short, steep climb up to Rockbound Lake. The gentle grade, while impeding running on the way up made for a beautiful run on the way down.
The Payoff
In terms of payoff for your efforts, Rockbound is a 10 out of 10. The views from the top are gorgeous!
